Victory!

Yesterday all of us in the hall were handed disciplinary letters for leaving open the kitchen doors...with it came a ridikulos fine of 30 pound demanding we pay up at once....below is the letter of complaint we handed in this morning.....

Dear Residential Services,
On the 25th October we of number 13-18 Marley Hall received fines of £30 each for leaving our kitchen door open overnight. We are absolutely disgusted that the University would go to such measures as to see those of who pay extremely expensive rent costs to be asked to pay up even more money. To us this is no more than a money making scheme for the University. Below is a list of things that we have found unacceptable over the short period of time here, and feel as the University found it so easy to find faults in our Halls resulting in fines, why could they not have corrected these other problems so quickly.

Our cooker was broken for over three weeks from the very start of the term meaning we had to find other methods of feeding ourselves. This proved costly to us as we had to eat off campus and as of yet we have received no offer of apology or compensation from the University for the inconvenience they have caused us.

Our bathroom in B018 has encountered problem after problem. Firstly it took the University four weeks to get some sort of shower curtain in place. Secondly the actual curtain in the bathroom has been down since the day I arrived. No attempt has been by any member staff to fix the problem and the problem still remains. The third problem in this bathroom is that the toilet leaks slightly after every flush. This slight leak means the bathroom by the end of the day is very wet and is not dry until the cleaner comes in the next day. Because there is no cleaner at the weekends, by the end of the weekend the bathroom is basically flooded. This is just not acceptable.

Our toilet in T018 also leaks. This slight leak means the toilet by the end of the day is very wet and is not dry until the cleaner comes in the next day. Because there is no cleaner at the weekends, by the end of the weekend the toilet is basically flooded.

Our shower in S018 has never been fixed. The water from the shower basically dribbles out. It’s not possible to have a proper shower using this facility. Again this is not acceptable as we pay extremely high rent.

The level of rent paid should reflect the level of service we are provided with. We believe that in our situation this is not true and know from speaking to other students in other Halls that they hold the same opinions as us. The University’s “Eagle Eyes” which spotted an open kitchen door seemed to have turned a blind eye to any problem that would cost them money. We feel that immediate action needs taken to the above problems and feel that the University has not provided the service promised. We cannot accept this fine or warning because not one of us was ever told of this reported incident in person. The University should put all what is not correct in place as soon as possible. We await a response from the University and believe we are being treated unfairly and unjustly.

Signed by all hall occupants

Suffice to say, we got all of the problems fixed in the afternoon and they withdrew the fine...ahahhahaa!!!!!!!!!!

Long But Productive Day

Ive just returned from bayswater in central london..thats where the Malaysian Students Department is....they haf alot of functions related to Malaysian students held there.......ive recently been appointed the publicity oficer for the UEL Malaysian Society so i wen to bayswater for the UKEC agm...was a really long and draggy agm with many issues involved and the election of new president and exco members.....UKEC(United Kingdon Executive Council) is a coalition of Malaysian societies in UK and Ireland....it works closely with the Malaysian students department and international students ofice in the UK to promote the interests of the Malaysian students in UK be it acedemic or employment wise..... its also a good place to meet Malaysians from all over UK....meaning its the perfect networking environment for the future...mostly realy smart and future professionals are the heads of the individual societies.....Kings col, Imperial, Lse, Warwick just to name a few....i don usually join stuff like this, but recently my perspectives and objectives in life have changed....if u asked me to join a club or society 3 years back, i'd laugh at u and ask u if u were that desperate for frens .....well thats wen i was young and naive.....after being thru so many obstacles just to come to UK, my outlook on things around me haf changed considerably....ive learnt to focus more on my priorities and the ppl that matter to me....ive learnt to be more tolerant and patient, which is actually fantastic improvement compared with my past...i guess mebe its bcos ppl here are generally more polite and practice public conscious...so its sumthin good that im pickin up i guess....to cut things short the agm lasted 4 hrs....its a good thing they subsidised the members travel expenses an we had free Malaysian dinner!...good stuff...theres this canteen below the Malaysian Hall an it serves halal malay food...nasi lemak, malay rice, fried kuey teow and all sorts of Malaysian food....really fantastic!....all free!..woohoo....but i think i'll be needin the toilet bowl soon....actually the highlight of the evening was wen i walked out of the canteen....right across the road was the grey silhouette of the ultimate driving machine!....the BMW M3 CSL !!! 360bhp 3.2 litre straight 6 monster!!!...now ive seen some really awesome cars in my short lifetime and ive been lucky to be able to test drive some of them....but just looking at the CSL for the first time in my life was unbelievable...if ur a car enthusiast u'll understand how i feel...as far as i know there arent any CSL's back home.....i actually didnt believe it was a CSL until i inspected the GT style air intake below the headlamps....just awesome!....the owner wasnt satisfied wit the original rims and replaced them with a fantastic set of 19in BBS rims.....just kinda guy who knows how to show off in style and elegance....oh i also inspected a nearby Porshe GT3RS....will full racing bodykit and rollcage inside....nice ride as well but not as perfectly crafted as the CSL....well wat can i say, my day turned out pretty good at the end....if i didnt haf the free car show i think id be too lazy to type all this down....so thats it fer today....zzzz
